I don’t know, I’ve never done any battery benchmarks with it connected – it would be weird in my opinion to watch a DVD on battery power off the external optical drive.

does it destroy the netbooks battery life?

  4. EddieLolz3r says:

Windows XP is STILL good! Windows 7 is good also! These two accessories I’m wanting to get. I wanna buy the LG Super Slim 8X DVD / 24X CD USB Powered External Drive with LightScribe.

    Now that’s good also!

These two things you show are a must have for my HP Mini 110. Awesome…

  6. WeThePeopleee says:

are netbooks good for playing games, like GTA IV, call of duty etc…

  7. ThoughtsMedia says:

Windows XP is less resource intensive than Windows 7, but not by much…Windows 7 is much more resource friendly than Windows Vista.

Hey Jason, I’m about to get a netbook that I’m going to use mainly for school work. I think that I should get the Dell Inspiron mini 10 because I’ve read some reviews and saw your vids. If you can suggest anything better, please do (My budget is around $400). Thanks

  9. thestillknight says:

Which takes up more RAM Windows 7 or Windows XP? Also did you say that most net books are being sold with pre-installed Windows 7?

  10. ThoughtsMedia says:

Absolutely – HD video editing requires much more horsepower…I’m was assuming he was talking about SD video.

if youre doing full-hd editing and rendering i’d prever an i7-920 system with at least 6gb of ram…

  12. ThoughtsMedia says:

You’d want something with a decent CPU – a Core 2 Duo or AMD X2 processor. The Atom CPU is very slow compared to those types of processors.

    Dear Jason,
What would be a good computer for editing?
    Thank-You

  14. ThoughtsMedia says:

If you’re editing videos, you should not get a netbook – they’re not designed for that sort of task.

I’m afraid I don’t understand your question – everything you see about Windows 7 in this video is by default, I didn’t change anything.

Out of all the netbooks I’ve tested thus far, the HP Mini 1000 and the MSI Wind (the U120) are the ones I’ve liked the most. The RAM is easy to upgrade on the MSI, but even easier on the HP Mini 1000.

  24. adonian says:

yeah thats true, they are hard to find.

  25. ThoughtsMedia says:

Well that’s cool that you were able to assemble your own slimline USB-powered drive from an internal laptop part and an enclosure, but that’s a *little* different than a regular retail packaged drive that anyone can pick up at any major computer store. :-) The Samsung was the first drive of its type I’d seen at retail.
    - Jason

  26. adonian says:

Sure is, it’s a laptop hd-burner, I got it from the fleabay for $49.00 and got an enclosure there too.

I plan to use it as just a dvd player/burner for my mini 9, and my aspire one when I go mobile with them.

its a toshiba sd-l902a. I still can’t believe people are still trying to sell them for $500.00, Especially since HD-DVD went the way of the Dodo.
